Amica The Glebe’s Grand Opening

There’s nothing like live music and celebration at a grand opening, and I must say that Amica’s Glebe location went all-out for their debut! I was one of four performers hired to entertain guests at the retirement home’s grand opening afternoon, playing in the grand foyer on the first floor. I truly felt the luxury of Amica, with valet parking that pulled right up to the door for me to load my harp in after the event was over, to a to-go box of desserts from the spread upstairs that I didn’t get a chance to enjoy!

What I played

For events like these, I usually stick to classic harp tunes that are less well-known so as to not detract from the conversations going on in the area around me. During quieter times I switched into more contemporary pop tunes for some variety. The event lasted for 4.5 hours, with guests filtering in and out of the retirement home’s lobby throughout the time.

Feedback

VIPs entering and exciting the new luxury retirement home enjoyed the music while chatting with representatives from the company, sampling hors d’oeuvres, and waiting for their tour of the facilities to begin. Many stayed in the lobby to relax and wait on the couches before finally going for a tour, and while waiting for the valet to bring their car around. I had one veteran and his family move couches so that they could watch me play for a while, and even captured a sweet moment of a VIP complimenting the music as I was packing up.
