Meet the Harpist

Hey there, I’m Hannah.
I play the harp.

I often say that musicians find their instruments in a similar fashion to how wizards in the Harry Potter universe find their wands – it’s the instrument that really calls to them, and feels natural.

I first started playing the harp in middle school after trying the piano (which I played for many years in elementary school), the violin and guitar (of which I had about 2 lessons for each), the drums and percussion in my middle school band (I didn’t like making loud noises), and finally vocal, although that one I stuck with for quite a few years.

Now, I perform across the Ottawa area for weddings and other events and continue my harp studies under the tutelage of Juno-nominee Caroline Léonardelli.

Repertoire

A selection of appropriate music will be chosen for your event based on length and atmosphere from my repertoire of classical and contemporary pieces. For special moments, requests will be accommodated wherever possible. If there’s a song you just know will make your significant other cry with tears of happiness as you walk down the aisle, I’m all ears!

About the Harps

My lever harp is Lyon & Healy Ogden in a classic natural finish.

For events that request a more Celtic feel or venues that aren’t accessible with one of my pedal harps, I have a fantastic Lyon & Healy Ogden lever harp. Most repertoire is available to be played on this harp, however some pop and classical pieces are not possible. Check with me to see if this harp is right for your event!

My main harp is a walnut Salvi Scolpita with a contemporary carved column.

After searching for the perfect concert grand harp for almost 3 years, I finally have added another harp to my practice space… a Salvi Scolpita! These harps are pretty uncommon in the harp world due to their somewhat polarizing column design (you either love it, or you hate it!). This model has been on my wishlist since I was 15, and I’m so excited to have it in my living room. Clients whose events meet specific requirements may request this harp as an upgrade. This harp was made in 1982, and is even older than my Salvi Daphne!

My performance harp is a Salvi Daphne 40 in a stunning piano black finish.

Harps come in various different styles, from modern and sleek designs to intricate and ornate handiwork gilded in 24k gold. My harp is a glossy blank finish Salvi Daphne 40, which is a ¾ size harp. This means you still get the sound and technical capabilities of a full-size concert harp, but in a slightly more portable packaging. The harp fits perfectly in any atmosphere, whether professional and demure or casual and upbeat. Fun fact: my harp is actually 5 years older than I am!

Apart from the harp…

I’m not gonna lie to you – when writing this section I was planning on it showing some contrast between when I’m a harpist and when I’m not playing, but when I started writing I realized that there’s not much difference.

Besides the harp, I’m also an accomplished ballet dancer and love creating paper flowers (like the 500+ I made for my wedding in 2021). I keep my feet firmly planted in the wedding industry by also helping the other amazing people that work behind-the-scenes to make your big day a success with their marketing and digital presence. I currently live just outside of Ottawa with my husband and two puppies, Stella and Mozart.

Follow me on Instagram! I love learning more about my couples and sharing what’s currently on my music stand.
